イベントレポート：MASTERS AT WORK in JAPAN - The first MAW session in 10 years -2006年12月10日
Louie VegaとKenny Dopeの二人、ＤＪ界最強ユニットと言っても過言ではないだろう。手がけたリミックス、プロデュース作品からは数々のヒット作が生まれ、二人がそれぞれ大物アーティストからの依頼は目白押し。そんな売れっ子DJユニットであるから、二人揃って来日することなどハレー彗星との遭遇並に貴重だ。そんな幸運が東京に訪れた。
12月10日＠六本木ベルファーレ、19時の開演前から日曜だというのに、大勢のオーディエンスが集まった。
KennyDopeがその大きな体を揺らしてDJブースに姿を現すとあきらかに場内の雰囲気が変わった。会場にいる全員の目がDJブースに注がれる。彼らの音楽のルーツに近いLowビートなファンク系の音から始まり場内は次第にアップテンポな曲に変わる。
一方しばらくしてから相棒Louie Vegaも登場し、場内は徐々にヒートアップ。曲調もお得意のハウスサウンドにＲ＆Ｂ、アフリカン、などNuyorican soul(ニューヨリカンソウル)で見せた幅広い音楽ルーツを感じさせる選曲が続く。

Back to Backでは無いが、慣れた様子で2人並んでのDJプレイが延々と続く、時折KennyとLouieはお互い近づき耳元に口を近づけて会話を一言二言交わし、息の合ったDJプレイを続ける。5時間以上ものプレイすべての曲を紹介する事はできない、
場内は10年ぶりに再現されたMASTERS AT WORKの世界に酔いしれた。彼ら二人のプレイを生で聴くことはニューヨークに居ても難しいとされるのに、この日にあの場所にいた1500人はまさに千載一遇のチャンスをモノにしたと言えるだろう。(Dai)
